Enclosed Porch
This wooden, enclosed porch originally stood in the Nieuwezijdskapel, also known as the Kapel Ter Heilige Stede – the Chapel at the Holy Citadel. This chapel was built at the spot where the Miracle of Amsterdam occurred in 1345, when a consecrated host was thrown into a fire but survived intact. For centuries the chapel was a place of pilgrimage, until it was decommissioned in 1908. The draught-excluding portal was subsequently transferred to the Oude Kerk, where it continues to keep out the cold outside air.
