States Bible
During the Synod of Dordt in 1618, the delegates decided that the Bible had to be translated into the vernacular, so that every believe could study scripture independently. The States-General were the commissioners and funders of the translation. They included an Acte van Authorisatie in the Bibles, so that the Statenbijbels – States Bibles – were identifiable as authorized versions. This was signed by J.S. van Swoll. This Bible was published in 1657 by the widow of the printer Paulus Aertsz. van Ravensteyn.
