Scale Model
With its 12-sided substructure, six-sided superstructure, large windows, dome and tower, this scale model by Nicolaas Listingh, which is more than four metres high, is not to be missed. Listingh worked as the Oude Kerk’s church warden for 42 years, until his death in 1663. Besides being church warden, he was a barrister and notary, and he had an interest in architecture. He designed this building for the Botermarkt – or Butter Market – in Amsterdam, but it was never realized. The structure is highly ornate: the many angles of the building are clad with rustic ornamentation and the Gothic windows are decorated with geometrical forms.
