A Square Without Corners

by Germaine Kruip
by Kruip, Germaine

In 2015 the Oude Kerk presented the exhibition Geometry of the Scattering by artist Germaine Kruip. 'For The World After', she explored the concept of infinity. This resulted in a performance for which she collaborated with Balinese High Priestess Ida Resi Alit. In Kruip’s own words:

In 'A Square Without Corners' I examine the absence of fixed meanings and its spiritual consequence. The script comprises quotes about infinity, especially about the way infinity frames the mental space in which ideas are conceived. In the video, Balinese high priestess Ida Resi Alit reads, chants and channels A Square Without Corners. I shared the Indonesian translation of the text with her and after studying it for several weeks, she came up with this heartfelt interpretation. She speaks a mix of Sanskrit, Kawi and what she calls ‘astral language’.
