by Christian Boltanski
by Boltanski, Christian

Inspired by the 2500 tombs of the Oude Kerk, Boltanski developed an uneven landscape of tombs with different heights. The tombs determine sight lines and route. Because the overview of the space is missing now, you sometimes lose one another. You appear and disappear. The intervention is radical because the ancient church's architecture is altered horizontally, and sight lines (the Gothic architecture are characterized by vertical lines) are determined and excised by the tombs.
