by Witte, Emanuel de

This painting of the Oude Kerk with a view of the north transept was painted by Emanuel de Witte (1617–1692). It is a lively scene with visitors who are walking around together or are deep in conversation. In the middle of the painting a boy is being chased away by a man. In the seventeenth century churches also served as meeting places, as illustrated in this work by De Witte.
