Woodcut with Plan of Amsterdam Featuring the Oude Kerk
A woodcut is a graphic technique that involved the drawing being gouged into wood. The ink collects in the excised sections and is thus stamped onto the paper. This woodcut shows the Oude Kerk from above, with the Oudezijds Voorburgwal, the Oude Kerk Bridge and Liesdelsluis to the left. To the right is water with boats. The water of the River Amstel continued as far as the Dam until this section was filled in.
