Kees Huges

Biography Kees Huges (NL) is a music therapist, composer and organist at the Waalse Kerk in Haarlem. Organ music arouses negative associations in many people. This is precisely why it is suitable for music therapy: it easily triggers reactions. Huges also plays singing bowls that produce meditative sounds by tapping them with a beat stick or slowly circling the rim. Back in 1998, he made a piece for twenty singing bowls, which had to compete with the sound of a church organ. In the Oude Kerk, the resonances and religious symbolism of the singing bowls he showed in the High Choir took on new meaning when confronted with the low organ sounds and circles in Germaine Kruip's exhibition.
