Ceiling Paintings
In 1956, when work began on the removal of the many layers of paint on the vaulting of the Oude Kerk, to everyone’s surprise remnants of paintings hidden underneath were revealed. Nobody knew of the existence of paintings on the vaulted ceilings. The paintings depict biblical scenes, saints, escutcheons and guilds, all dating from circa 1500.
