This bust of Jan Pieterszn. Sweelinck (1562–1621) was created by Elisabeth Varga in 2005. Sweelinck ranks among the most important composers of the early modern era. Like his father, Sweelinck was organist at the Oude Kerk and is also buried here. On the bronze pedestal stands the text ‘Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck 1562-1621. Orpheus of Amsterdam.’
