This mourning shield was made to commemorate the death of Arnoldina (Aertje) de Graeff, who died on 22 September 1703. The shield comes from the Oude Kerk’s Baptismal Chapel on the west side of the church, the location of the burial chapel of the De Graeff family, who were Dutch nobles and one of Amsterdam’s most influential regent families.
