Hendrick Gerritsz. Zeehelm, to whom this commemorative plaque is dedicated, lies buried in the section for overseas navigators. Zeehelm served in the navy of the Republic of the United Netherlands, eventually attaining the highest rank of Admiral. Zeehelm served in Sweden and at the Dutch colony of New Netherland in North America, the present-day state of Delaware in the USA. He died in Amsterdam on 27 May 1668.
