PIXEL (First Light)

by Children of the Light

A camera slowly zooms in at a single pixel in a black space. As the camera draws closer, the white light is separated into a colourful spectrum. The image evokes a distant star, casting its light on our planet in transition, anticipating what is to come. Christopher Gabriel and Arnout Hulskamp, who collaborate as artist duo Children of the Light, look to question our hyper reality and the striving for en ever higher resolution. They refer to a quote by Brian Greene, prominent mathematician and string theorist: ‘If every kid, every night, everywhere experienced an inky black sky punctuated by stars, we’d start transcending everything that divided us.’
