Silence #28: Herman Kolgen

by Herman Kolgen

Early in the morning, the Oude Kerk is a What is the sound of our earth? How can we make that which is inaudible audible?

Herman Kolgen (BE / CA) is an "audio-kinetic" artist and works at the intersection of contemporary music, electronic music and digital art. He looks for sound in landslides, magnetic waves, weather phenomena, or the electricity of mushrooms, for example. Kolgen processes these sounds into new sound experiences and audiovisual experiences, such as SEISMIK, ISOTOPP, AFTERSHOCK and ECOTONE. Topographically distant locations become entangled with each other; abstract sound takes on new meaning. Inspired by Adrián Villar Rojas' exhibition Poems for Earthlings, Kolgen created a new audio performance based on the relationship between nature, music and topology.
