Come Closer: Amplified Time with Pamela Jordan, Jo Kali and Ivan Cheng
in the series
Come Closer
During the last part of the Come Closer program in relation to The Instrument of Troubled Dreams by Janet Cardiff and George Bures Miller, visitors were invited to listen beyond the here and now. On April 12, Pamela Jordan and Jo Kali conducted listening tours, where the "here" was still the space of the Oude Kerk, but the "now" was stretched towards a possible past and a speculative future. Apart from Jordan and Kali's listening tours, a video about Gemini Exit (Beeny's Retirement) was also presented on a screen in the St Sebastian Chapel. The 12.05-minute video, called 'contraband Gemini Exit (Beeny's Retirement)' was edited by Fán Liào, and showed footage from the February edition of Come Closer. Gemini Exit (Beeny's Retirement) was a performance by artist Ivan Cheng with wearable sculptures by Kristoffer Zeiner. The performance reflected on questions of agency without authorship.
Come Closer was a series of educational performance programs in the Oude Kerk, developed in and around the specific artistic interventions inhabiting the space at the. Artists, musicians, researchers and visitors together explore an underexposed past, alternative versions of the present and possible futures. Curated by Radna Rumping, the Come Closers took the form of intimate evenings, where visitors and artists explore the sonic space of the Oude Kerk with dance, performance and deep listening exercises.
