Silence #15: Claire M Singer en Jacob Lekkerkerker
Early in the morning, the Oude Kerk is a meditative oasis in the city. Since 2017, on every first Friday of the month at 8 a.m., when the rising sun casts its light through the church’s towering windows and the neighbourhood slowly wakes up, visitors can enjoy the Silence music programme. The concerts celebrate the acoustics and space of the Oude Kerk, which invites mostly young, experimental musicians. There are no fixed seats; visitors are welcome to walk around and discover what the music sounds like in different places in the church.
The concert on September 7 was a collaboration between British composer Claire M Singer and organist Jacob Lekkerkerker. It was the last concert in the Silence series around Anastasis. During this concert a new composition could be heard with electronics, church bells and organ. Claire M Singer is a composer, producer and interpreter of acoustic and electronic compositions, films and installations. She has performed in galleries, clubs and festivals worldwide. She composed 'Fairge' for the exhibition of Marinus Boezem in 2017, commissioned by the Oude Kerk. 'Fairge', like her other work, was released through the Touch label.
