Drawing of the Oude Kerk’s Interior, Viewed from West to East

by Jacob van Ruysdael (1628-1682)

Jacob van Ruysdael (1628/1629-1682) was one of the most important painters of the Dutch Golden Age and is renowned for his landscapes and seascapes. This drawing shows the interior of the Oude Kerk looking from west to east. Van Ruysdael’s depiction of the wooden vaulting is too shallow, but otherwise the drawing is a realistic rendering.
