Deze ‘zakelijk directeuren’ van de Oude Kerk, vier voorname Amsterdamse burgers, meestal uit koopmanskringen, werden benoemd door het stads-bestuur. Met de komst van de eerste kerkmeesters werd het uiterlijk van deze kamer steeds deftiger. De kerkmeesters hingen schilderijen op, van David Colijns en Emanuel Witte, die hier nog steeds te zien zijn. \n

          In de achttiende eeuw werd ook het interieur geheel vernieuwd in ‘Franse Stijl’.
