Commelin was naast historicus ook boekhandelaar en woonde achter de Oude Kerk. De gravure laat een goede weergave van de winkeltjes zien, maar het perspectief is sterk mistekend."

Besides being an historian, Commelin was also a bookseller and lived behind the Oude Kerk. The engraving provides a handsome representation of the little shops but the perspective is markedly skewed."
